Bukayo Saka has revealed the ‘love of the nation’ helped him overcome last summer’s Euros penalty ordeal as he earned his England redemption in Doha.

Saka, as revealed by Sportsmail on Monday, was the shock selection in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI for Monday’s World Cup opener against Iran - and the Arsenal star repaid his manager’s faith with a brilliant brace in England’s 6-2 win.

The forward was left heartbroken last summer after missing a vital penalty in England’s shoot-out loss to Italy in the European Championship final, resulting in the Arsenal star receiving disgusting racial abuse on social media.
