Broadcasters set for talks with football authorities over scheduling fears caused by the extensive additional minutes being introduced to stop time-wasting

Broadcasters are holding talks with football authorities after the new rules dramatically extended game times.

Discussions are taking place ahead of the start of the Premier League season on Friday night after regulations aimed at cutting down on time-wasting saw a significant extension to the duration of a number of matches.

Perhaps most notably, Arsenal equalised in the 101st minute at the end of the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday, leaving City boss Pep Guardiola furious after his side lost on penalties.

And it was a similar case across the EFL and National League with widespread gasps in the crowd when third officials held up their boards to indicate what some believe to be excessive amounts of added time.
