Arsene Wenger's critics handed more ammunition after it emerged Arsenal were without a captain in second period of Manchester City draw

Arsene Wenger’s critics have been given further ammunition after it emerged that Arsenal did not have a captain in the second half of Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

The irony will not be missed in a season when Arsenal have been criticised for appearing rudderless and lacking on-field leadership.

Stand-in skipper Laurent Koscielny went off injured at half-time in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City and highlights show that no-one wore the captain’s armband in the second half after he was replaced in defence by Gabriel.

Speaking on Tuesday, Wenger did not appear sure when asked as to who took the role in the defender’s place for the second half and did not know who will captain the team against West Ham on Wednesday evening.
