Mark Hughes has criticised the calls to get Charlie Adam banned for a alleged stamp on Alexis Sanchez, claiming Arsenal’s large social media presence created a ‘witch-hunt’.
Adam has escaped an FA charge of violent conduct, although the incident was referred to a three-man panel of former referees following widespread publicity on Twitter.
The trio could not unanimously decide on action so Adam will face no suspension, and Hughes said he would have been ‘absolutely astounded’ had the opposite outcome occurred.
Hughes had a different view on Arsene Wenger’s push on fourth official Paul Tierney, insisting the Arsenal manager was on dangerous ground for reacting to his side conceding a penalty to Stoke in the clash at the Emirates.
