Arsenal at the World Cup

One Gunner was in World Cup action on Friday. Scroll down to find out how they got on.

Mohammed Elneny played the entirety of Egypt’s opening World Cup fixture in Group A, as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat in the dying moments against Uruguay.

It looked like Elneny would grab his reward for a commanding midfield performance, but in the 89th minute José Gimenez leapt high to head the ball home and snatch all three points.

Meanwhile, Nacho Monreal was an unused substitute in Spain’s 3-3 draw with Portugal. Cristiano Ronaldo gave Portugal the lead with a penalty, before Spain equalised through Diego Costa.
