Arsenal academy chief Andries Jonker leaves for Wolfsburg manager's job

Wolfsburg have appointed Arsenal academy boss Andries Jonker as their new manager.

The 54-year-old currently headed up the Gunners academy, but was approached by the struggling Bundesliga side to replace Valerien Ismael, who was sacked this weekend.

Jonker was Wolfsburg’s assistant manager before taking the academy role with the Gunners.

The Dutchman was working as normal over the weekend; completing his duties as normal at the club’s London Colney base on Friday and Saturday.

But Wolfsburg’s interest is understood to have accelerated over the past 24 hours with the respected coach indicating to the German club he would be willing to take the job.
