WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point baseball alumni and current astronaut Shane Kimbrough '89 will soon venture outside the International Space Station (ISS) to perform a complex upgrade to the ISS power system.
Expedition 50 Commander Kimbrough and Flight Engineer Peggy Whitson will perform the first of two spacewalks on Jan. 6.
The work will continue on Jan. 13 during the second spacewalk, which will be conducted by Kimbrough and Flight Engineer Thomas Pesquet of ESA (European Space Agency). This will be the 196th and 197th spacewalks in support of space station assembly and maintenance.
