Red Wolves go on defensive after loss

JONESBORO -- Half an hour after Arkansas State University's season-opening loss to SMU on Saturday night, interim coach David Duggan stood at a podium inside the Red Wolves' new north end zone facility and spoke with resounding conviction.

Duggan, ASU's first-year defensive coordinator, had watched SMU pester his unit for most of the night in his system's debut.

"I have to take a long look at myself first," Duggan said. "It starts with me. It doesn't start with the staff. It doesn't start with the players. I have to critically evaluate myself after every game, just like we evaluate the players.
