PARIS (8/9/24) – Arkansas State track and field alumna Camryn Newton-Smith concluded the heptathlon Friday at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, held at Stade de France in Paris.
Entering the final three events with 3,678 points, the Australian finished 19th overall against the world's best, totaling 5,982 points. She leaped 5.78m (18-11.75) in the long jump before recording a throw of 44.77m (146-10) in the javelin. The Greenbank, Queensland, native concluded the day with a time of 2:24.63 in the 800 meters.
Newton-Smith – a three-time All-American while at A-State – became the program's 11th all-time student-athlete to become an Olympian, the first since 2008 and first woman since 2004.
