Arkansas State got off to a quick start after having three batters on base, Joe Schrimpf had two home runs and three RBI while Justin Felix added a home run and three RBIs.
A RBI single by Rucker gave the Red Wolves a 4-0 lead in the second inning. A-State starter Brandon Stuckenschneider breezed through the first inning on seven pitches, but he faced a major jam in the second. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Stuckenschneider induced an infield fly and followed it up with two strikeouts to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard.
A-State regained the six-run advantage by way of two runs scored in the sixth and seventh innings.
