BEAUMONT, Texas (2/13/15) — The Arkansas State women’s tennis team dropped its second straight match in the state of Texas with a 6-1 setback against Lamar Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops Arkansas State to 0-2 on the young season, while Lamar improved to 2-1 and earned just seventh all-time victory against the Red Wolves in the series history.
Freshman Shelby King earned the only singles’ point of the day for Arkansas State with a straight set 7-5, 6-1 victory over Andrea Ivanovic. Julie Gauguery dropped a hard battle in the No. 1 match to Katya Lapayeva 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, while Victoria Roberts won a set against Anna Spengler but ended up losing the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-0.
