McCasland, a graduate of Baylor, spent time at Texas Tech as the Director of Operations from 1999-01 and at Northeastern JC as an assistant coach from 2001-03 before taking the reigns as Head Coach at Midland College in 2004.
McCasland led Midland to a National Championship in 2007, as well as an elite eight in 2005.
After departing from Midland in 2009, McCasland was hired on to be the Head Coach at Midwestern State. While at Midwestern State, McCasland guided the team to back-to-back elite eight appearances. He compiled a 199-44 record in seven season as a Head Coach.
