RIO VERDE, Ariz. (2/26/16) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team began play Friday afternoon at the 14th Annual Rio Verde Invitational, completing the three-day tournament’s opening round in ninth place among 18 teams after shooting a 304 on the Rio Verde Country Club’s White Wing course.
A-State ended the first round just three strokes behind sixth-place Ohio and within six of co-leaders Bradley and Toledo. The Red Wolves hold a one-stroke advantage over 10th-place Xavier and are currently in front of Little Rock, the only other Sun Belt Conference team participating.
The Red Wolves were led by Aracelly Jimenez Rios, who carded a 74 to put in her a tie for 11th place.
