ARLINGTON, Texas (4/14/18) – The Arkansas State baseball team hung on to win the first game of a doubleheader at UT Arlington by a score of 6-4 to snap a six-game losing streak before falling to the Mavericks in the second game by a count of 4-2 Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.
A-State (12-19, 4-10 SBC) got to UTA (17-17, 8-6 SBC) starter Brad Vassar right off the bat with a RBI single from Winston Welch that was followed by a two-run bomb by Grant Hawkins to make it 3-0. The Red Wolves extended the advantage to 6-0 in the third frame when Drew Tipton scored on an error before a RBI double from Welch and run-scoring single from Tobias Johnson.
