For older millennial and Generation X Arkansas football fans, there is one heartbreaking loss that looms larger than the others — the 1998 “Stumble and Fumble” game at No. 1 Tennessee where a win could have helped catapult then No. 7 Arkansas into the national championship game just a couple months later.
On that night, Arkansas led for all but 28 seconds. Unfortunately, those were the last 28 seconds of the game.
As agonizing as that loss in Houston Nutt’s first season was, it isn’t at the same level of the pain wrought upon Razorback Nation in the 1969 “Big Shootout” played between Arkansas and Texas at home.
