Arkansas starter Zebulon Vermillion watches Saturday, March 20, 2021, as an Alabama batter hits a fly ball during the seventh inning of play at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville
Arkansas starter Zebulon Vermillion had never thrown eight innings in a game before last week's 8-1 victory over Louisiana Tech.
Now he's done it in back-to-back appearances.
Vermillion, a fourth-year right hander, threw 101 pitches in No. 1 Arkansas' 9-1 victory over No. 24 Alabama on Saturday. Vermillion didn't think he was going to make it past seven innings.
"In the sixth inning, (Arkansas pitching coach Matt) Hobbs actually asked me (if) I have one more inning" Vermillion said.
