CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina will be without starting third baseman Mac Horvath during Sunday's super regional game against Arkansas.
Horvath, a sophomore, underwent an emergency appendectomy Saturday night, according to a statement from the Tar Heels' team. The statement says Horvath is recovering and the surgery was successful.
Arkansas defeated North Carolina 4-1 on Saturday and will win the super regional with a victory Sunday.
Horvath is the Tar Heels' two-hole hitter and has a .268 batting average and .847 OPS (on-base plus slugging). He has hit 18 home runs.
Johnny Castagnozzi will start in place of Horvath.
