TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- A long jumper turned in one of the day's most impressive performances -- only it came in a 200-meter sprint.
Running the 200 for just the "second or third time all year," Arkansas junior Jarrion Lawson qualified for Saturday's finals with a personal best of 20.56 on the opening day of the SEC Track and Field Championships at Sam Bailey Track Stadium at the University of Alabama.
Turns out, it was a day of personal bests.
All total, five Arkansas athletes set personal records in their respective events, including Lawson.
Lawson and Taylor Ellis-Watson ran career bests in the men's and women's 200 meters, respectively, in the preliminaries to advance to Saturday's finals.
