FAYETTEVILLE — The third-ranked Texas football team had an answer when challenged in the fourth quarter by Arkansas on Saturday.
After the Razorbacks pulled within 13-10 early in the quarter, the Longhorns scored a touchdown, forced a turnover on their own end of the field and played keep away to win 20-10 in front of an announced attendance of 74,929 at Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
Texas (9-1, 5-1 SEC) survived an upset bid that would have severely damaged its College Football Playoff hopes. The Longhorns remained the only one-loss team in the SEC.
After Matthew Shipley’s 44-yard field goal pulled Arkansas within 13-10 with 12:48 to play, Texas answered with an 8-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to go ahead 20-10 on Quinn Ewers’ 1-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Golden.
