FAYETTEVILLE — Peyton Stovall, a high school shortstop from Haughton, La., said Monday he will take his name out of consideration for the MLB Draft and play college baseball at Arkansas.
Stovall was rated the No. 33 prospect in the draft by Baseball America and was considered a possible first-round pick. But Arkansas coaches said before the draft that Stovall would command a large signing bonus — likely seven figures — and had expressed a strong desire to play college baseball.
Stovall was not drafted Sunday in the first round or Competitive Balance Round A.
“After much prayer and guidance from the lord above and long talks with my family, I have decided it’s best for me to withdraw my name from the MLB draft and continue my education and career at the best university in the country,” Stovall wrote in a Twitter post.
