FAYETTEVILLE — Finally, there is someone to play first base, filling the only hole in the Arkansas lineup.
Jared Gates gave the No. 6 Razorbacks everything they've lacked for much of the season in a 10-2 baseball victory over Southern Mississippi in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional on Saturday night.
The senior from Wichita, Kan., dazzled with a two-run homer during the seven-run second inning. He also snared two liners, one for a double play to help freshman Bryce Bonnin out of a mini jam the ninth. His diving catch into foul territory to start the eighth was the highlight of a good defensive game by all the Razorbacks.
