FAYETTEVILLE — Slugfests on Friday night in the SEC are rare.
But the ultimate rarity happened Friday night in Arkansas’ 11-9 victory over Tennessee: a freshman with 6 RBI.
Generally, in the second half of an SEC season, the Friday night starters are too good. Arkansas starter Isaiah Campbell and Tennessee’s Garrett Crochet are so good that the area behind home plate was packed with pro scouts licking their chops at a pair of great prospects.
And, it was a night for the scouts to compare notes on the gas coming out of the hands of the nine hurlers sent to the mound, five by the Volunteers, among the nation’s best staff with an NCAA-leading ERA of 2.
