Former Arkansas pitcher Ryne Stanek was promoted to the Tampa Bay Rays' MLB team on Saturday.
Stanek, a first-round draft selection of the Rays in 2013, was called up for the first time. He had previously pitched for the Rays' triple-A affiliate in Durham, N.C., where he had a 2.00 ERA in 14 relief appearances this year.
Stanek is the 12th former Arkansas player to make an MLB roster this season. Others are pitchers Dallas Keuchel (Astros), Drew Smyly (Mariners), Barrett Astin (Reds), Mike Bolsinger (Blue Jays) and Blake Parker (Angels); catcher James McCann (Tigers); infielders Logan Forsythe (Dodgers) and Matt Reynolds (Mets); and outfielders Andrew Benintendi (Red Sox), Craig Gentry (Orioles) and Brett Eibner (Dodgers).
