BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Chris Sciambra's towering home run off reliever Will Bacon in the bottom of the ninth inning gave LSU a 4-3 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette in the opener of their best-of-three super regional Saturday night.
Sciambra's heroics came after Louisiana-Lafayette pinch-hitter Brenn Conrad led off the top of ninth with a tying home run off of LSU freshman ace Alex Lange.
Lange struck out 11 through eight innings, but was driven from the game after Conrad's blast. Reliever Parker Bugg (1-2), who got the win, retired the next three batters.
Jake Fraley belted a two-run homer and run-scoring double for LSU (52-10), which is now one victory away from its 17th College World Series appearance.
