Sampson, Yurachek on the clock

FAYETTEVILLE — In separate interviews Friday, two University of Houston officials discussed their hope that Cougars coach Kelvin Sampson would remain with the program.

UH board of regents chairman Tillman Fertitta and UH president Renu Khator both expressed their satisfaction with the fifth-year coach as reports have linked him to the vacancy at Arkansas.

In an interview with KRIV-TV prior to the Cougars’ 62-58 loss to Kentucky in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, Fertitta, a billionaire philanthropist and owner of the Houston Rockets, said UH has offered Sampson a new six-year, $18 million contract.

National and Houston media reports have linked Sampson to the Arkansas vacancy since the Razorbacks fired Mike Anderson as coach Tuesday.
