FAYETTEVILLE — Reuben Reina broke his own program record in the men’s mile Saturday at the Razorback Invitational.
At the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 17, the redshirt junior tied a 48-year-old Razorback record with a time of 3 minutes, 55.40 seconds. He bested it Saturday with a time of 3:53.95, finishing third in the event at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Teammate Yaseen Abdalla, a transfer from Tennessee, also finished better than the previous record with a personal best 3:55.31 to place sixth.
Oklahoma State’s Fouad Messaoudi placed first with a meet-record time of 3:52.66.
“I think [Reina] is disappointed he didn't win the race, but he's running against the best guys in the country, and I think there's a lot more in the tank,” Arkansas men’s coach Chris Bucknam said.
