Since the opening of the transfer portal in October of 2018, and the subsequent decision by the NCAA to allow athletes to profit from their NIL in the summer of 2021, the college football landscape has changed drastically.
Now, after last year’s decision to eliminate penalties for multi-school transfers, pay-for-play has become rampant in the sport. It would be hard today for a player like TJ Finley – who is on his fifth school in six years, beginning his career at LSU before venturing to Auburn, Texas State, Western Kentucky and now Tulane – to develop any real credibility or respect among the “loyalist” fans of college athletics.
