FAYETTEVILLE — Loyd Phillips, who as a senior defensive tackle at the University of Arkansas won the 1966 Outland Trophy as college football’s top interior lineman, is going into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
Phillips, 73, has made his home in the Northwest Arkansas area since his NFL career was ended during the 1970 season because of a leg injury, but he is from Longview, Texas.
A consensus All-American in 1965 and 1966 and first-round NFL Draft pick by the Chicago Bears, Phillips will be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame on March 30 at a banquet at the Waco Convention Center.
