Mason Overstreet earns runner-up finish at NCAAs

Arkansas freshman Mason Overstreet made a run at winning the NCAA individual championship in Monday's final round.

Overstreet earned a runner-up finish by closing the tournament with a 1-under-par 71 to finish 7-under, 4 shots back of Ole Miss' Braden Thornberry, who also fired a final-round 71 to finish 11-under and win the individual title.

Overstreet made a short birdie putt on the par-5 18th to break out of a four-way tie for second and claim the outright runner-up finish, the second-best finish in program history.

He had a shot to win heading down the stretch, trailing Thornberry by 2 strokes with 3 holes to play, but failed to get up and down for par on the par-3 16th and the par-4 17th, back-to-back bogeys which effectively ended his chances of winning.
