NEW YORK — Michigan assistant coach Akeem Miskdeen remembers seeing Johnell Davis in high school and in AAU ball.
Davis was a go-to scorer and ball handler for 21st Century High School and someone to do all the unnoticed things in AAU. The unheralded, no-star recruit was exactly what Miskdeen wanted for his Kent State team at the time.
“I really think it just showed people that he’s a team player, that he’ll do whatever it takes for his team to win,” said Larry Upshaw, one of Davis’ high school coaches. “That competitive edge that he has, it kind of rubs off on his teammates.
