Jerry Mazzanti, All-SWC lineman for Arkansas football, dies at 84

FAYETTEVILLE — A funeral will be held Saturday for Jerry Mazzanti, a 1962 All-Southwest Conference defensive tackle for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Mazzanti died Jan. 18 in his hometown of Lake Village. He was 84.

Mazzanti lettered at Arkansas from 1960-62 on teams that had a combined record of 25-8 under coach Frank Broyles.

The Razorbacks won SWC championships in Mazzanti’s sophomore and junior seasons, and he earned All-SWC as a senior on a team that went 9-2 and narrowly missed a fourth consecutive conference title.

Arkansas shared the SWC title in 1959 when Mazzanti served a mandated redshirt season as a freshman.
