'It matters': Izzy Higginbottom's All-SEC women's basketball snub frustrates Mike Neighbors

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas women’s basketball guard Izzy Higginbottom made unfortunate history Tuesday.

Higginbottom became the first player to lead the SEC in scoring and not be awarded an All-SEC team designation. She averaged 23.9 points in the regular season, which ranked fifth nationally.

Despite her scoring title, the 5-7 guard was not one of the 16 players — which are split evenly with eight on the first and second teams — selected by the league’s coaches.

“I gave her a Papa Neighbors quote first,” Arkansas coach Mike Neighbors said Tuesday, recalling an earlier conversation with Higginbottom.
