FAYETTEVILLE — When the calendar turns to October, Rakeem Boyd tends to hit his stride.
It is a trend that not even the Arkansas running back himself can explain.
A freak weight-room incident that resulted in a torn rotator cuff and torn labrum in his left shoulder, in part, derailed Boyd’s stay at Texas A&M following a successful stretch at Stratford High School in Houston. Boyd rushed for more than 6,400 yards and 80 touchdowns in his prep career and also earned scholarship offers from the likes of Michigan, Nebraska, Missouri and others.
He then transferred to Independence Community College in Kansas with plans to return to the Division-I level.
