The opening ceremonies of the highly maligned/highly anticipated Rio Olympic Games are on Friday, and the University of Arkansas is sending a school record (we think) 17 current and former athletes to Brazil to compete. Seven of those athletes will be members of Team USA. One of those seven, pole vaulter Lexi Weeks is a native Arkansan from Cabot (Jarrion Lawson is from the wrong side of Texarkana, so, it’s close.)
Most of them are, of course, track and field athletes, meaning they won’t be competing until the second week of the Games.
