Freeze finally leaves Fayetteville with a smile

FAYETTEVILLE— Prior to Saturday, Liberty coach Hugh Freeze hadn’t tasted success in Fayetteville.

Those fortunes changed after his Flames, a 14 1/2-point underdog despite being ranked 23rd by The Associated Press, defeated Arkansas 21-19 at Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

Freeze, who was 0-2 as a head coach at the Razorbacks’ home stadium while at Ole Miss from 2012-16, began his post-game news conference saying the win had him “lost for words.”

“When I was in the league as an assistant and then as a head coach, I never left here real happy,” Freeze said. “And who would have thought that my first win in Fayetteville would have been with Liberty, a little FBS school who just turned into FBS for the last four years.
