Defensive adjustments, shot making push Arkansas women's basketball past Texas-Arlington

FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas women’s basketball team has struggled in second quarters early this season.

Prior to Thursday, the Razorbacks had been outscored in the second quarter in each of their three games — 29-18 against Fairfield, 15-14 against East Texas A&M and 15-10 to Arkansas-Little Rock. They outscored their opponents by an average of 8.25 in the three other quarters and overtime.

Of Arkansas’ 46 total turnovers entering Thursday’s game against Texas-Arlington at Bud Walton Arena, 19 came in the second quarter. Opponents had taken a total of 53 second-quarter shots to the Razorbacks’ 33.

The Mavericks ended the first quarter with a 21-18 lead.
