In a down-to-the-wire finish, Arkansas escaped with its first March Madness victory of the John Calipari era by upsetting Kansas on Thursday.
The Razorbacks led by as many as 11 points early in the second half, but the Jayhawks forced a comeback when their Hall of Fame coach, Bill Self, threw a quirky zone at Arkansas’ offense.
Initially set up in a 2-3 zone formation, Kansas essentially ran a triangle-and-2 for most possessions, allowing its guards to play more of a matchup defense while the forwards played in a high, athletic line in the back of the zone.
