FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas center fielder Andrew Benintendi is one of 21 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, which is presented to the best college baseball player in the nation.
Benintendi, the Southeastern Conference player of the year, is batting .395 this season with 18 home runs and 52 RBIs. He also has 21 stolen bases and is expected to be a first round pick in next week's MLB Draft.
The sophomore is one of four SEC players who are semifinalists for the award, which is presented by USA Baseball. Other SEC semifinalists are Vanderbilt's Dansby Swanson and Carson Fulmer, and LSU's Alex Bregman.
