A Bella Vista man injured near the Buffalo National River was rescued Sunday.
The 60-year-old man was unable to hike out of a remote section of the Ponca Wilderness after being injured late Saturday, according to a news release.
Park rangers delivered overnight gear to the hikers after thick fog and a severe thunderstorm moved into the area. Rescue was delayed until the next day.
A team met at Compton Trailhead to begin the rescue Sunday morning.
The team rappelled down a 20-foot-high bluff to reach the man. The man was then placed in an emergency rescue basket and brought up both the cliff and 100 feet of steep terrain, according to the release.
