FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas right-handed pitcher Payton Burnham was named SEC softball freshman of the week Tuesday.
Burnham had a dominant 6 1/3-inning outing during a series-clinching 9-0 victory at No. 7 Tennessee on Sunday. She gave up 3 hits with 5 strikeouts, 3 walks, 12 fly outs and 2 ground outs.
The Eugene, Ore., native threw 58 of her 88 pitches for strikes and lowered her season ERA to 1.96 against a Lady Volunteers offense that entered the weekend ranked 15th nationally with 7.7 runs scored per game.
“I thought our team was dialed from the very first pitch to the last,” Deifel said Sunday.
