Former Florida State and NFL running back Sammie Smith will join the Ole Miss football program as the team’s new director of character development for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Sammie to Ole Miss, and I’m grateful that our student-athletes will have his positive guidance available to them,” said head coach Hugh Freeze, according to a press release. “With his playing career and life experiences, Sammie will serve as an excellent resource for those players that want help navigating life’s tough decisions.”
Smith was a star for the Seminoles in the mid-1980s and spent four seasons in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos.
