FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek and football coach Sam Pittman have discussed the idea of hiring a general manager for the sport.
The position is growing rapidly in college athletics as NCAA transfer portal and name, image and likeness issues swell in importance alongside recruiting, technical knowledge and player development.
Numerous SEC schools have hired personnel for the position. Perhaps the most well-known general manager hires in the last year is Stanford’s Andrew Luck, who along with Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden is one of two players to be the Heisman Trophy runner-up in consecutive seasons.
