Arkansas basketball sleepwalks through nightmarish drubbing at South Carolina

South Carolina left an ugly mark on the Arkansas basketball team’s NCAA Tournament resume Saturday in Columbia, S.C.

A nightmarish start for the Razorbacks paved the way to a 72-53 loss to the SEC’s last-place Gamecocks at Colonial Life Arena. Arkansas trailed by as many as 35 points.

The Razorbacks (17-12, 6-10 SEC) scored 14 points in the first half, their fewest in a half since 12 at Nebraska during a 78-71 loss as part of the 1987 National Invitation Tournament.

It was a sleepy performance for a team that could not afford a bad loss.
