Arkansas baseball walks off Washington State in 10th inning on Opening Day

FAYETTEVILLE — The fifth-ranked Arkansas baseball team scored twice in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat Washington State 3-2 in the season opener Friday at Baum-Walker Stadium.

It was the first game of a doubleheader. The teams are scheduled to play again at 4:10 p.m.

After the Cougars scored an unearned run in the top of the 10th to take a 2-1 lead, Washington State relief pitcher Trevor Stowe walked the bases loaded with no outs.

Ryder Helfrick scored from third base on a 1-out wild pitch to tie the game and Brent Iredale’s sacrifice fly scored Justin Thomas from third to win the game.
