FAYETTEVILLE — After pouring over the video this weekend, Arkansas coaches believe they have diagnosed what led to Gabe Gaeckle’s historically bad start Friday against Charlotte.
The right-hander was rocked for 9 earned runs on 10 hits and was chased before recording an out in the fourth inning of what was a wild 11-10 comeback by the Razorbacks to open an eventual sweep that improved them to 10-1 through three weeks.
It was the most earned runs an Arkansas starting pitcher had allowed in nearly a decade and is believed to be the most given up by a starter in a non-conference game since Dave Van Horn took over the program in 2003 — a shocking result for the sophomore pegged as a National Pitcher of the Year candidate heading into the season.
