BUFFALO, N.Y. — Thursday was not the best day to be a No. 5 seed at KeyBank Center.
Hours after No. 12 seed Richmond stunned Big Ten Tournament champion Iowa 67-63, New Mexico State made it a daily double and upset Connecticut 70-63.
Aggies guard Teddy Allen was heroic, finishing with 37 points, including 23 in the second half, on 10-of-24 shooting and 4-of-7 beyond the arc.
He made all 13 of his free throw attempts and drew 13 fouls.
In the final minute of the game, New Mexico State fans stationed across the floor from the team's bench chanted his name as he sank the game-sealing free throws.
