With the Arkansas Razorbacks' overtime loss to the Texas A&M Aggies last night, the Razorbacks now sit at 1-3 and head coach Bret Bielema sits firmly on the hot seat in the minds of plenty college football experts. With the bluster that Bielema has been exhibiting since coming to Fayetteville in 2013, we happen to agree. Here's 3 Reasons Arkansas HC Bret Bielema Is On The Hot Seat.
1. His Big Mouth
Bret Bielema has talked a lot of smack as of late. Remember when he dumped all over Ohio State's scheduling? Or how about his trash talk leading up to last week's loss to Texas Tech -- irritating enough for Red Raiders head coach Kliff Kingsbury that he bluntly proclaimed that Bielema "got his ass kicked." When you talk trash on a big stage, you have to back it up. Arkansas' 1-3 record and inability to assert an identity on both offensive and defense is the opposite of that. Quiet down, Bret.
2. 2-15
Bielema's Razorbacks went 0-8 in SEC play in 2013 and 2-6 in 2014. After last night's overtime loss to Texas A&M, Bielema is now 2-15 as Arkansas' head coach in conference games. When you've got such an in-state recruiting advantage as Arkansas has, along with the added benefit of being an SEC program on the trail, things should even out sooner or later in-conference. It hasn't, and a .118 win percentage in SEC games is simply inexcusable right now.
3. Marketing Disaster
This goes hand-in-hand with #1. If Bielema keeps flapping his jaws and can't back it up with on-field success, top recruits aren't going to bypass more successful SEC schools to play for a coach who is rapidly becoming a caricature. That includes in-state recruits. If Bielema loses Arkansas, he loses his job. It's really that simple.
