UALR's Beard named Sun Belt's top coach; Hagins on first team

The UALR men’s basketball team just completed one of the most successful regular seasons in program history and was recognized for such when all-Sun Belt teams were announced Tuesday.

Less than a year after being hired, Chris Beard was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year, while senior guard Josh Hagins was named to the all-Sun Belt first team, junior guard Marcus Johnson Jr. was named to the second team, and senior forward Roger Woods was named to the third team.

Beard, who led the Trojans to a school-record 27 victories and their first Sun Belt regular-season title, is the third UALR coach to earn the Sun Belt honor, joining Steve Shields, who won it in 2003-2004, and Wimp Sanderson, who won it in 1995-1996.
