CONWAY -- It's not often the University of Central Arkansas' backup catchers see the field.
The Bears' typical starter, senior Casey Shipley, is among the team's top hitters this season and provides stability behind the plate.
But Wednesday, for the first time in 31 games this season, Shipley took a spot on the bench. In his place, freshman Carter Alexander made his collegiate debut.
In UCA's 9-6 loss to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on Wednesday at Bears Stadium, the freshman from Bigelow went 2 for 4 with three RBI. He also caught a runner stealing in the sixth inning.
