Maumelle man advances in Open qualifying
The first three automatic spots were claimed after 18 holes, but it took plenty more for the final two automatics and the two alternates.
Patrick Sullivan of Maumelle was the medalist at 5-under-par 67, followed by Sam Burns of Shreveport and Ben Robinson of Droitwich, England, at 68 for sectional berths during local qualifying for the 116th U.S. Open on Tuesday on the Arlington Course at Hot Springs Country Club.
It then took seven playoff holes for Matthew Cole of Fayetteville and Tanner Napier of Paris, Texas, to claim the other two automatic-qualifying spots, with Dustin Korte of Metropolis, Ill.
